Best Time to Visit Tanzania

Great migrationTanzania is a delight to visit at any time of year, offering different aspects of the country – landscapes becoming more verdant, dried-up lakebeds gradually revealing themselves, clouds clearing to reveal a crisp night sky – as the seasons change.

The vast majority of national parks and game reserves in Tanzania are accessible and wildlife rich all year round, even between March-May which marks the peak of the major rainy season. It is only in the most remote national parks that some roads may become impassable. During the rainy season, accommodation will be quieter, and usually a lot cheaper, and enthusuastic photographers will have the opportunity to take some impressive and dramatic pictures of wild game below a brooding and stormy sky!

Of course, the drier seasons are also a fabulous time to visit, since wild animals tend to congregate around the permanent sources of water, generally making them easier to find. Lodges will be busier, meaning you will have more of an opportunity to socialise with other safari-goers and exchange exciting tales around the campfire!

If you are visiting Tanzania especially to witness the “Great Migration”, which sees over a million wildebeest make their annual journey from the Serengeti to the Masai Mara, then as a guideline,he best time to visit would be during the months of February to May. During this time you can witness the mass birth of huge numbers of baby wildebeest – a truly remarkable sight in itself, which is enhanced by the roaming lions that are on the hunt for easy prey.
