Location: Msambweni Beach

Msambweni means land of the sable antelope, and once you've experienced this luxury accommodation's 4-mile white-sand coastline fringed by coconut palms, you will truly feel at one with nature.

Perched on 40-foot cliff with a 25 metre infinity pool giving out to the most stunning of Kenyan views, this complex boasts 3 luxury guest rooms on the main site, one villa and one luxury tent.  The guest rooms on the main site are all en suite with private verandas, and are decorated with hard wood furniture and white soft furnishings.  The tent is an exciting and romantic place to stay, softly lit with oil lamps during the balmy African evenings.  The Lamu villas boast their own infinity pools and Jacuzzi facing the sea.  These villas also have the added bonus of a private cook and table steward.

Indeed, dining here is truly fabulous.  All staff are trained by a professional Belgian cook, bringing about an eclectic mix of Swahili, Belgian and French dishes.  And of course fresh seafood always features on the menu!

Activities on location include snorkelling, fishing, kite and wind-surfing, croquet and mountain bike rides with a picnic.  There is also a spa offering massages and beauty treatments.  Nearby activities include an 18-hole golf course, tennis, scuba-diving and deep-sea fishing.  Other excursions include Kisite Marine Park (where you can see turtles, dolphins or even whales), Shimba Hills (great for spotting antelope and elephant during a picnic lunch!) or even a short flight to the Masai Mara Game Reserve.

Notable highlights include:
  • 25 metre infinity pool
  • Sandbank lunches
  • Endless white beaches
  • Professionall trained kitchen staff, headed by a professional Belgian chef
  • Sundowner cocktails looking over the cliff from the infinity pool

Reviews & Testimonials of Msambweni House

"It's paradise"

It's paradise. Yes really.

Msambweni provides the discerning traveller with a unique combination of both boutique hotel design and, crucially, boutique service.

We went there on honeymoon and I can honestly say that the time there was the most perfect holiday of our lives so far.

Supper on the beach? Done. Lunch at 4pm because you overslept? Done in an instant. Go fishing with the locals and then return for a meal worthy of a Michelin restaurant? And have every meal delight your taste buds with inventive presentation and attention to detail? Of course!

The place is so romantic, beautifully lit at night and the staff are just so warm and welcoming. Our room in the master house was HUGE! It had an outside lounge area with dining area overlooking the infinity pool and the sea. Bliss.

Just to put into context how AMAZING the service is: We arrived at Ukunda airstrip, hot and tired. The Msambweni staff were waiting for us in their Land Rover, complete with a trestle table laid outside with fresh juice, snacks and cooled face flannels. Stunning service with a smile...

If you want the perfect relaxing honeymoon and enjoy chilling out with a glass of wine and a book in a luxurious beach location, then this place is for you.

Thank you Msambweni from Anneke and myself for making our stay so wonderful. This hidden idyl is currently the best kept secret in Kenya.

"What a superb trip"

What a superb trip!! My fiancé and I have just returned from one of the most memorable trips we have ever had. We spent one night in Mombasa town before heading down to Msambweni, a small town 2 hours from Mombasa city centre. The was a huge contrast between the bustling city centre of Mombasa and the tranquillity of Msambweni Beach House – just what we needed to escape from the busy life in London.

As soon as we arrived we were greeted by Beverline and the team with a lovely cold glass of passion fruit cocktail, sipping away in the sun while we were taken on a mini tour of the Beach House, beach, infinity pool, massage area etc.

We stayed in Room I which was absolutely divine. Open plan, white, airy, clean and serene our room comprised of a large king size bed, a balcony with two different seating areas and also a huge ceramic bath tub and wet room. We also had a welcome note and drinks waiting for us. It is the little things like this that make a stay so personal and bespoke.

After a swim and an amazing lunch, you can lie by the pool, sit on the beach or have an afternoon massage. If you are feeling a little active, the team can arrange a trip to the Shimba Hills to visit the elephants or simply spend the afternoon fishing with a local.

On our third night we stayed in Lamu Villa I and I can honestly say that anyone considering staying at Msambweni Beach House should stay here! Our first room was outstanding however the villa was simply out of this world! Your own infinity pool overlooking the beach, private Jacuzzi, seating areas and the biggest room you will ever stay in. This was simply an exceptional villa, truly breathtaking. But the thing that made it so unique was the fact that you had baby monkeys swinging around on the tree tops while you are relaxing reading a book in the sunshine – clearly a sight that everyone should see once in their life!!

The one thing that should not be overlooked is the fact that the hospitality is second to none. Frederic and Nancy were so welcoming - happy to sit, talk and have a drink with you, making you feel completely at ease. All the other staff members (Beverline, Shibe, Victor) were always so polite and had the biggest smiles whether it was early morning, noon or night time. One thing I will miss for sure is the breakfast!! I do not eat pork/bacon but the team didn’t want to make me feel left out while my fiancé devoured his bacon during breakfast so they found some beef bacon for me which was so delicious. Needless to say I had this everyday after!!

All in all this was beyond doubt one of the best holidays we have had and will be back to enjoy it all again!

Thanks again to Frederic, Nancy and the whole team at Msambweni Beach House and hope to see you soon!
