Something to please everyone

As well as amazing wildlife, diverse terrain and diverting day-excursions, this family package has the added benefit of a long beach extension.  After so much action, tracking wildlife, taking photos and exploring Kenya's rugged wilderness, the whole family will relish the chance to relax, take a swim, or try out some new and exciting water sports!

Your journey will start in Nairobi where, after taking a city tour if desired, you and your family will rest up in the charming Holiday Inn Nairobi.  After a hearty breakfast, you will head to the Ol Pejeta Private Conservancy in the Mount Kenya region, where you will spend your days visiting chimps in the fantastic Chimpanzee Sanctuary, getting up close and personal with black rhino at the invaluable Rhino Sanctuary, and generally enjoying the stunning scenery and fresh mountain air.

Descending into the Great Rift Valley, your next stop will be Lake Naivasha.  This is another gem in the heart of Africa - here, you can take in the beautiful surroundings from the middle of the lake itself as you sail along on a boat safari.  There is really no better way to get close to the myriad bird species and huge hippos which reside here.  You will also have the opportunity to take an afternoon tea at Elsamere - former home to Joy and George Adamson - and explore the museum there.

Your final few days in the bush will be spent in the Masai Mara.  This corner of Kenya offers the quintessential idea of the African wilderness - glorious sunrises, reddish sunsets, golden plains, dense bush and, of course, a richness of wildlife rarely rivalled anywhere in Kenya.  Here, you can spend a full two days spotting the "Big Five" and many, many other wild creatures.

After so much wildlife adventure, you will relish a few days spent on the beach - especially on Kenya's wonderful and vibrant coast.  This part of the country, where so much Swahili culture was cultivated, is where you will find stretches of white beach, dotted with palm trees, giving onto clear blue waters.  At the fabulous Diani Beach, a whole host of water sports is on offer - kite surfing, wind surfing, diving, fishing...for something a little less extreme, a snorkelling trip is something the whole family can enjoy.  Or, you could simply walk the beaches, eat at the restaurants, read a book, play some games and simply enjoy some time together as a family.

From a water hole in the bush to water sports on the beach

Your first night after a long journey to Kenya will be spent at the Holiday Inn Nairobi.  Here, you can have a glance at the newspaper delivered free to your door in the morning, perhaps the children will take a quick swim in one of the two pools, before taking a delicious family breakfast and heading out on your safari adventure together.

Your first night in the bush will be the height of safari authenticity in a tented camp.  At Sweetwaters, each charmingly decorated, en suite tent is situated on a platform and reached by your own wooden staircase - most exciting for younger guests!  Perhaps more exciting is the sheer volume of wildlife here - don't be surprised to spot a giraffe just beyond the row of tents, or a gazelle grazing in the distance.  The floodlit water hole just outside the dining room is another fantastic feature of this wonderful lodge. After watching some night-drinking warthog or antelope as you enjoy your sumptuous buffet dinner, you can retire to the lounge bar and enjoy a nightcap (or a hot chocolate!) in front of a roaring fire.  The perfect end to an active day.

The Naivasha Sopa Lodge at Lake Naivasha is a perennial favourite with our guests.  This delightful lodge offers extremely spacious cottage style rooms with well appointed bathrooms, satellite television, lounge area and large bay windows leading to a private veranda.  There are no borders or boundaries here, so wildlife can wander freely in the grounds, browsing in the trees or grazing on the rolling lawns.  Hippos occasionally wander into lodge grounds at night, meaning you will be escorted to and from your room for dinner!

One of the highlights of the Keekorok Lodge in the Masai Mara is undoubtedly the permanent watering hole, reached via a long wooden boardwalk which meanders through the Keekorok forest.  The bar directly overlooks the watering hole, which is home to about 20 hippos and regularly visited by elephant and giraffe.  The lucky guests may even spot a lion.  No guest will fail to be excited by this, regardless of age!

Finally, the WaterLovers in Diani is the perfect place to end your African adventure.  Not only are there the white sands and blue waters that characterise the Kenyan coast, but there are striking black-and-white colobus monkeys and brightly coloured tropical birds residing in lush tropical forests.  WaterLovers close proximity to the H2O Extreme Water Sports Centre means guests can easily partake in a little kite surfing or wind surfing.  The hotel is few-minute boat ride from a coral reef where snorkelling is particularly enjoyable.  Even without leaving the WaterLovers grounds, kids and parents will enjoy swimming in the turtle-shaped infinity pool and relaxing in the sun.
